How to Add a Footer on WordPress

A very significant role in the structure of a WordPress website is played by the footer. As one of a page’s fundamental components, it demands careful planning and construction. The footer, as used in web design, typically denotes the bottom third of a web page.

Add Footer on WordPress Using a Widget

Step 1: Appearance > Menus

The first thing you wanted to do is visit your WordPress dashboard and select the “Appearance” option and then select “Menus”.

Step 2: Create a New Menu

What you now want to do is locate and select the “Create a New Menu” option located on the screen. Once you have done that, you will be taken to a new page. Select the empty bar alongside the “Menu Name” option and type in “Footer”.

After you have inserted the menu name, click on the blue “Create Menu” option on the bottom right corner of your screen.

Step 3: Customizing Your Footer Menu

Once on your Footer Menu, you will be able to select the pages you would like to appear on your footer.

Once you have selected your desired pages, click on “Add to Menu”.

Step 4: Saving Your Menu

After you have completed all the steps listed above and you are satisfied with your selections, go ahead and click “Save Menu”.

Step 5: Locate Your Widget

The next step is locating your widget. To do this, head over to the left-hand side of your screen and select “Appearance” and then “Widgets”.

Step 6: Add Legacy Widget

When you arrive at the following page, select the dropdown menu located alongside “Footer 1”. Select Add Block → Legacy Widget → Navigation Menu.

Step 7: Edit Your Navigation Menu

You’re almost there! Simply edit your navigation menu by entering your desired “Title” and under “Select Menu” click on “footer”.Once that’s done, simply click on the “Update” button in the upper right corner.

Simply visit the front end of your page and refresh to see your new navigation menu located in the footer!

How To Create a Footer Using a Theme Customizer

Step 1: Appearance > Customize

The first thing you want to do is open up your WordPress Dashboard. On the panel located on the left-hand side of the screen select “Appearance” and then “Customize”.

Step 2: Locating Your Footer Bottom

Once you have navigated past the dashboard, scroll down until you locate the “Footer Bottom” option on the left side of your screen. Click the “Footer Bottom” option.

Step 3: Editing Your Copyright Footer

Once here you will be able to edit your Copyright footer. Once you are satisfied with your adjustments select “Publish’. All that’s left to do is refresh the front end of your website and you will find that your copyright footer will be updated!
