Foobar is a WordPress plugin that helps your notification bar to stand out. Notification bars are becoming increasingly common on blogs and websites around the web. They are a useful way of generating exposure to your social media accounts, highlighting your best content or drawing the visitor’s attention to something very important.
Those of you who have visited WP Mods over the last few weeks will have noticed a notification bar at the top of the page promoting our WordPress Theme Competition. I used Hello Bar to do this. It’s a useful service but I was looking for something that gave me more control over what is displayed in the bar.
Foobar Any Good?
I found such a solution with a plugin called Foobar (from developers Themergency). Foobar is a notification bar plugin for WordPress that boasts a huge amount of options. You can create an unlimited number of ‘foobars’ and can place different bars on different pages, which would allow you to promote things more effectively.
Foobar Plugin Features
The plugin gives you a huge amount of control and makes customizing the bar a breeze. You can add social media profiles, show your latest tweets, show your latest blog posts and display multiple messages if you want. Have a look at the screenshot below to see just how easy it is to modify the bar.
The social media buttons can be switched off or shown on the left or right. Adding new social media profiles is very straightforward. You simply need to choose a suitable icon and then add the URL to your social media account.
Check out the video below to see how easy it is to add notification bars to your website.
Foobar retails for a very affordable $9 from ThemeForest. I think this is a very useful addition to any blog or website. The notification bars are not too intrusive and they can easily be hidden away by visitors (it can currently be seen at the top of every page on WP Mods).
If you have any questions about the plugin, please let me know and I’ll do my best to answer them 🙂
Thanks,
Kevin
