Simple Social Icons is a simple social media widget plugin for WordPress. Released yesterday by Brian Gardner of StudioPress, the plugin lets you display social media icons for Dribble, Email, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, Pinterest, RSS, StumbleUpon and Twitter.
Social Media Icon Sizes
Everything is controlled via the widget. You can choose the icons to be 24, 32, and 48 pixels in size. You can also set the border radius for the icons. When I tested the plugin the border seemed to only be applied horizontally as the icons from one row join on to the icons below. This occurred in every theme I tested the plugin with. The color and hover color of the icons can be changed and you can align the icons from the right instead of the left if you want too.
I tested the plugin using the default colors first. The default color for the icons is light grey and a darker grey when the user hovers over the icon link.
Customizable icons
The ability to change the color of the icons directly from the widget sets this plugin apart from many alternative options. Most plugins give you 3 or 4 different options for sizes but I don’t recall any plugin that lets you change the color of the icon. This allows you to choose from an unlimited number of colors and hover colors for each icons.
Simple Social Icons is great for beginners
The plugin doesn’t allow you to add additional icons however most major social media sites are included. All of the included icons are stylish and it’s very straightforward to set up. I recommend checking it out if you are looking for a minimalistic way of displaying your social media profiles.
